Since November 2023, 11.5 per cent of the natural gas-powered buses of STCP – Sociedade de Transportes Colectivos do Porto have been fuelled by biomethane, making a total of 36 zero-emission vehicles.
Dourogás provides biomethane and is the bridge in the decarbonisation of STCP’s fleet. For Dourogás’ CEO, Nuno Moreira, “partnerships like the one we are developing with STCP make us even more confident in the decarbonisation path that is urgently needed, particularly in heavy passenger and freight transport, where gas mobility is currently a competitive and sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. Particularly with biomethane, which represents an opportunity for immediate decarbonisation and an effective example of the circular economy, since it results from the recovery of waste into emission-free fuel.”
Cristina Pimentel, chairman of STCP’s Board of Directors, is confident about the change and says that “this incorporation of biomethane will allow us to increase the number of 100% emission-free vehicles, thus reinforcing our commitment to decarbonising our operation, as well as our desire to actively contribute to the quality of life of the people in the municipalities in which we operate.”
