Dourogás and CapWatt initiate collaboration with Plug Power for a green methanol project in Portugal

Dourogás, in partnership with CapWatt, has signed an agreement with Plug Power for the Technical Evaluation Phase (TEP) in the development of an innovative green methanol project in Portugal. The project, named H2DRIVEN, aims to produce 80,000 tons of renewable methanol per year, combining biomass gasification with green hydrogen generated through water electrolysis powered by solar energy.

During the engineering phase of the project (FEED), Plug Power will provide essential technical support with its advanced proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysis technologies. This support will enable risk mitigation and informed decision-making for the success of the initiative, which aligns with Portugal’s energy innovation and sustainability goals. The H2DRIVEN project aims to reduce 105,000 tons of CO2 by 2027 and positions itself as a milestone in the development of new production technologies, strengthening energy independence and national competitiveness. The project is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2026..   Source: GLOBE NEWSWIRE
