Dourogás was recognized at the 5th edition of the National Sustainability Awards, promoted by Jornal de Negócios, by winning in two categories: Sustainable Mobility and Decarbonization. This double award reinforces the company’s commitment to innovative and sustainable practices.
Sustainable Mobility with Biomethane
The “Biomethane: the Waste of some is the Fuel of others” project was the winner in the Sustainable Mobility category. This initiative transforms waste into biomethane, a renewable energy source that has been revolutionizing the transport sector, replacing fossil fuels such as diesel. The results speak for themselves: in 2023 alone, 23,000 tons of CO₂eq were avoided. The following year, this figure more than tripled to 73,500 tons of CO₂eq avoided.
Decarbonizing the industry
In the Decarbonization category, Dourogás was awarded the project “Biomethane: The Key to the Renewable Transition in Sectors that are Difficult to Decarbonize”. This is a pioneering proposal that promotes the use of biomethane in sectors where decarbonization is particularly difficult, such as industry and transport. The great advantage of this approach is the possibility of using existing natural gas infrastructure without the need for modifications, which facilitates its adoption. Since the start of the project, around 97,000 tons of CO₂eq have been avoided.
Commitment to sustainability
Dourogás continues to invest in solutions that promote energy efficiency and reduce its carbon footprint, in line with global sustainability goals. These awards are recognition of the company’s ongoing efforts to innovate in the energy sector, promoting practices that contribute to a greener and more responsible economy.
